Gijsworks is run by Gijs van der Borg (KvK 87396564), based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This page explains what happens to your personal data when you visit gijsworks.com or gijsworks.nl (the same website, in English and in Dutch) or get in touch with me.
What Gijsworks collects
Three things, and only these.
1. The contact form.
Nothing is stored until you send it yourself. Once you do, I receive:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your company name, if you add one
- Your project timeline
- The type of project
- Whatever you write in the brief
The form also asks you to tick that you agree with this privacy policy. It saves the date and time of your message, together with the technical details your browser sends along, such as your IP address and browser type.
2. Visitor statistics, only if you say yes.
If you accept analytics cookies, I use Google Analytics (loaded through Google Tag Manager) to see how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people find the site, roughly where they are (country and city), which device and browser they use, and how long they stay. Google Analytics recognises your browser with a random identifier in a cookie; it does not know your name. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. I use this for statistics only: not for advertising, not for profiling, and I do not combine it with any other data. If you do not accept, none of this is loaded, and your browser makes no request to Google at all.
3. Server logs.
Like every web server, the server that hosts this site writes basic technical logs of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page you asked for and your browser type. I use them to keep the site secure and working, and nothing else.
If you email me, I have what you send: your email address and the content of your message.
How it's used
I use your contact details to reply to your message and, if a project follows, to plan and deliver the work. That's the only reason they exist on my end: not for marketing, not for profiling, and never shared with advertisers.
I process your data on these grounds:
- Contact form: your consent, when you tick the box and send the form, and the contract that follows if we start working together.
- Visitor statistics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (see Cookies below).
- Server logs: my legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
How long it's kept
- Form submissions are kept for at most 2 months, then deleted.
- If we work together, your details carry over into the records for that project. Invoices and accounting records are kept for 7 years, as Dutch tax law requires.
- Email is kept for as long as it takes to answer you and, if a project follows, for that project.
- Visitor statistics are kept at Google for the retention period set in Google Analytics (at most 14 months) and then removed automatically.
- Server logs are kept only as long as needed to keep the site secure and working, and are then removed.
Who else handles your data
I don't sell or trade personal data, and there are no advertisers involved. These parties handle data for me:
- DigitalOcean hosts this website, including the contact form messages, on a server in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Nobody else gets access beyond what's needed to keep the site running.
- Google (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager), only if you accept analytics cookies. Google can process data on servers outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Google says it protects these transfers with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and its certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Microsoft (Microsoft 365 / Outlook) provides my email, where your emails and the notification of a contact form message arrive.
Cookies
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the buttons below, or by deleting the cookies in your browser. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect what happened before. Your choice is stored per website, so gijsworks.com and gijsworks.nl each ask once.
- None of the cookies are used for advertising or for tracking you across other sites.
Necessary
Necessary cookies help to make a website more user-friendly by enabling basic functions such as page navigation and access to secure areas of the website. Without these cookies, the website cannot function properly.

Security
This site runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Submissions sit on a server with restricted access, limited to what's needed to run the site and respond to messages. The hosting infrastructure is actively maintained and kept up to date to close known vulnerabilities.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (AVG in Dutch law), you can ask me to:
- Show you the data I have on you
- Correct it
- Delete it
- Limit or stop using it
- Provide a copy in a portable format
You can also object to how I use your data, and withdraw your consent at any time. I don't make decisions about you with automated systems.
